Đánh giá Crucial MX500 250 GB: hiệu năng/giá rất tốt

Vào thời đầu của ổ SSD, Micron là hãng đầu tiên ra mắt dòng SSD SATA 6 Gbps dành cho người dùng phổ thông dưới thương hiệu Crucial C300 năm 2009. Trong những năm gần đây khi thị trường SSD đang trở nên bùng nổ và phổ biến hơn thì cái tên Crucial gần như vắng bóng, đến hôm nay Crucial tung ra dòng MX500 – 2,5″ SSD SATA, liệu chăng có hơi chậm so với thời thế nhưng hãng nói dòng ổ này sẽ mang lại hiệu năng cao cùng với mức giá rất dễ chịu. Mình có ở đây phiên bản 250 GB giá tham khảo khoảng 2 triệu đồng và chúng ta hãy cùng nhau xem qua hiệu năng của chiếc ổ này nhé.
Crucial là công ty con của Micron – hãng làm chip nhớ nổi tiếng của Mỹ và MX500 dĩ nhiên sử dụng chip nhớ cây nhà lá vườn. So với dòng MX300 thấp hơn thì MX500 được trang bị chip nhớ 3D TLC NAND 64 lớp 256 Gb. Đây là dòng chip nhớ được Micron hợp tác cùng Intel phát triển với nhiều ưu điểm, lớn nhất vẫn là chi phí bởi tổng dung lượng GB trên mỗi tấm wafer tăng hơn 80% trong khi chi phí/bit TLC giảm ít nhất 30%. Với việc sử dụng 3D TLC NAND 64 lớp thì MX500 sẽ cạnh tranh sòng phẳng với những đối thủ như Samsung 860 EVO vừa ra mắt, Intel 545s hay WD Blue 3D NAND mà mình cũng vừa đánh giá gần đây.
Đi cùng với chip nhớ 3D TLC NAND 64 lớp là vi điều khiển Silicon Motion SM2258. Đây là một thay đổi đáng chú ý bởi trên dòng MX trung cao cấp thì Crucial thường dùng vi điều khiển của Marvell, vi điều khiển của SM trước đây chỉ được hãng trang bị trên dòng BX giá rẻ. Bên cạnh Crucial thì Intel là hãng thường dùng vi điều khiển của Silicon Motion trên các dòng ổ SSD SATA, điển hình như dòng Intel 540s dùng SM2258, sang thế hệ 545s dùng SM2259.
SM2258 về cơ bản là một con vi xử lý RISC 32-bit hỗ trợ 4 kênh NAND 8 CE (chip hình vuông nằm giữa), dùng bộ nhớ DRAM DDR3 với phiên bản 250 GB có 256 MB DRAM (chip hình chữ nhật nằm trên). Crucial có dán thêm các miếng keo tản nhiệt cho vi điều khiển và chip NAND truyền qua lớp vỏ nhôm của ổ nên nhiệt độ khi hoạt động tối đa đo được vào khoảng 36 độ C.
SM2258 sử dụng công nghệ sửa lỗi LDPC độc quyền của Silicon Motion là NANDXtend đồng thời khai thác công nghệ bộ đệm giả SLC và thuật toán Direct-to-TLC cho phép dữ liệu được ghi trực tiếp vào chip nhớ TLC khi bộ đệm giả SLC tràn. Đây là một kỹ thuật xử lý dữ liệu không mới và được nhiều hãng khai thác, có thể hiểu nôm na trên những SSD có bộ đệm giả SLC thì tất cả dữ liệu được chuyển sang bộ đệm SLC trước khi SSD ghi vào chip nhớ TLC để khai thác tốc độ ghi cực cao của SLC. Phương pháp này giúp ổ SSD bền hơn, giảm độ hao mòn (wear-off). Ngoài ra, SM2258 còn có một số tính năng hữu ích khác như DevSleep, bảo vệ dữ liệu khi mất điện, công nghệ StaticDataRefresh – một dạng công nghệ tĩnh điện độc quyền của SM giúp bảo vệ tính toàn vẹn dữ liệu trước hiện tượng thay đổi đột ngột của điện áp xảy ra khi 8 trạng thái điện áp của cell nhớ thay đổi (TLC chứa 3 bit thông tin mỗi cell)
Để kiểm tra hiệu năng của Crucial MX500, mình thử nghiệm chiếc ổ này với chiếc máy bàn có cấu hình như sau:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 (Skylake) 4 nhân 4 luồng, 3,3 – 3,9 GHz (Turbo Boost), 6 MB Cache, TDP 65 W;
- RAM: 2 x 8 GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200;
- SSD chính (chứa OS): WD Black PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe 512 GB;
- SSD thử nghiệm: Crucial MX500 250 GB;
- SSD so sánh: WD Blue 3D TLC NAND 250 GB;
- SSD so sánh: WD Blue 2D TLC NAND 500 GB;
- SSD so sánh: Lite-On CV3 MLC NAND 256 GB;
- OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
CrystalDisk Info kiểm tra nhanh trạng thái của Crucial MX500, chiếc ổ này hiện đang chạy ở giao tiếp SATA 600 tức SATA 6 Gbps, các tính năng S.M.A.R.T, TRIM, DevSleep đều hỗ trợ đầy đủ và nhiệt độ khi nghỉ hiện tại là 29 độ C rất mát mẻ. Chiếc ổ này mình định dạng NTFS với dung lượng khả dụng là 232 GB.
Kiểm tra hiệu năng đọc/ghi với dữ liệu RAW, mẫu thử 1 GB với các mức dung lượng từ 512 byte đến 64 MB thì Crucial MX500 250 GB đạt tốc độ đọc tối đa đạt 548,76 MB/s ở kích thước mẫu 8 MB và tốc độ ghi tối đa đạt 489,95 MB/s ở kích thước mẫu 48 MB. Tốc độ này rất gần với tốc độ lý thuyết được Crucial đưa ra là 560 MB/s đọc và 510 MB/s ghi cho phiên bản 250 GB. Dù vậy, tốc độ này vẫn còn kém đôi chút so với WD Blue ở cả 2 phiên bản 3D TLC NAND và 2D TLC NAND cũng như chiếc ổ Lite-On CV3-DE256 mình tháo máy vốn dùng 2D MLC NAND. Tốc độ truy xuất dữ liệu nén của Crucial MX500 khá đều ở mức dung lượng từ 64 KB trở lên và nếu xét về trung bình thì Crucial MX500 đọc khoảng 547 MB/s và ghi khoảng 480 MB/s.
CrystalDisk Mark cho thấy những con số khá xác thực với tốc độ trung bình mà mình tính toán với ATTODisk Mark, 547,2 MB/s tốc độ đọc tuần tự và 477,9 MB/s tốc độ ghi tuần tự với độ dài queue 32 thread 1. Với tốc độ truy xuất ngẫu nhiên tập tin cỡ nhỏ 4 KB, Crucial MX500 250 GB đạt tốc độ đọc 271,1 MB/s (khoảng 66k IOPS) và ghi 234,9 MB/s (57k IOPS). Tộc độ này phản ánh tốc độ trao đổi dữ liệu giữa CPU và ổ Crucial MX500 với thiết lập chuỗi queue 32 và 1 thread. Queue depth là số yêu cầu truy xuất I/O hay lệnh SCSI được đưa vào hàng chờ vi điều khiển xử lý mỗi lần. Đối với ổ SSD SATA thì độ dài queue tối đa là 32.
Bằng Disk Benchmark của AIDA64, mình kiểm tra tốc độ đọc liên tục theo thời gian của Crucial MX500 với mẫu 4 MB, kích thước mẫu này khiến Crucial MX500 không gặp nhiều khó khăn khi duy trì tốc độ đọc trung bình trên 498 MB/s.
Ở thử nghiệm đọc ngẫu nhiên với kích thước mẫu 64 KB, Crucial MX500 250 GB có tốc độ đọc trung bình 352,8 MB/s và rất ổn định. Crucial MX500 250 GB chỉ mất chưa đầy 2 phút để hoàn tất trong khi WD Blue 250 GB mất hơn 2 phút rưỡi và nhanh hơn 2 giây so với chiếc ổ Lite-On CV3. Cả 2 chiếc ổ Crucial MX500 250 GB và Lite-On CV3 đều có độ trễ truy xuất trung bình chỉ 0,04 ms trong khi WD Blue 250 GB 3D TLC NAND có độ trễ 0,08 ms còn WD Blue 500 GB dùng 2D TLC NAND có độ trễ đến 0,26 ms. Vì vậy CPU mất nhiều thời gian xử lý truy xuất hơn và kết quả như đã thấy, phiên bản WD Blue 500 GB 2D TLC NAND phải mất đến gần 5 phút để hoàn tất bài test.
Thử nghiệm với dữ liệu thực tế gồm một file nén .ZIP dung lượng 60 GB và một thư mục hỗn hợp 67 GB. Crucial MX500 250 GB đạt hiệu năng rất tốt với kiểu dữ liệu nén khi hoàn tất tiến trình trong chỉ 3 phút 37 giây. Tuy nhiên, chiếc ổ này lại gặp khó với dữ liệu hỗn hợp khi mất 5 phút 42 giây để hoàn tất.
Đây là biểu đồ tốc độ của Crucial MX500 250 GB khi copy thư mục từ ổ WD Black 512 GB PCIe 3.0×4 NVMe sang. Tốc độ ghi rất đều ở 199 – 200 MB/s nhưng đáng tiếc vi điều khiển Silicon Motion SM2258 đã làm hết khả năng của mình. Như chiếc ổ Lite-On CV3-BE256 này, phần đề pa có đạt tốc độ ghi đến trên 500 MB/s và sau đó giảm xuống ở mức 230 MB/s và duy trì đến hết tiến trình.
Crucial MX500 250 GB đạt băng thông 189,95 MB/s theo bài test PCMark 8 Storage, khá ngang ngửa với WD Blue 250 GB 3D TLC NAND nhưng khi chuyển sang thời gian thực thi các ứng dụng trong bài test như chạy game Battlefield, WoW hay các tác vụ chỉnh sửa hình ảnh, video và văn phòng thì sự chênh lệch về tốc độ không nhiều và thời gian hoàn tất các tác vụ chỉ chênh nhau vài giây. Bài test này cũng phản ánh hiệu năng thực tế của mỗi chiếc ổ SSD SATA khi chúng ta sử dụng hàng ngày. Sự chênh lệch này sẽ rõ ràng hơn nếu so sánh những chiếc ổ SSD SATA với dòng ổ dùng giao tiếp PCIe.
Nhìn chung Crucial MX500 là dòng SSD SATA có mức giá và hiệu năng rất tốt trên thị trường 2,5″ SSD SATA 6 Gbps. Phiên bản 250 GB có giá xấp xỉ 2 triệu đồng, 500 GB là 3,5 triệu đồng, 1 TB là 6,9 triệu đồng và 2 TB là 16 triệu đồng. Như vậy xét trong cùng phân khúc với những WD, Samsung, … những thương hiệu tự sản xuất SSD với linh kiện “cây nhà lá vườn” thì Crucial MX500 vẫn rẻ hơn đáng kể. Đổi lại thì hiệu năng có phần thua kém đôi chút, do đó mình nghĩ nếu anh em muốn đầu tư SSD dung lượng lớn với mức giá dễ chịu thì Crucial MX500 là một sự lựa chọn rất hợp lý. MX500 được bảo hành 5 năm với độ bền rất cao lên đến 100 TBW cho phiên bản 250 GB, vì vậy chúng ta có thể tạm yên tâm khi quyết định đầu tư dòng ổ này.
